If you would like to check a map, click on the following link. BUT, before you do, note that it will open a new browser window. Thus to get back here, close the window. The link is set to give a bird's eye view of Fern Tor ( a scale of 1:10,000). To get a good view of the area, including the area covered from the Moortown Rest Area, change the scale to 1:100,00. There are 11 buses a day each way between Tiverton and South Molton (and on to Barnstaple) which go by our front door, so it is easy to get out and about without a car once you are here. Half of the buses go onto Exeter from Tiverton. Connections can be made to other towns and attractions in the area.
If you want to leave the car at home, the nearest mainline train station is at Tiverton Parkway (but see below), and there are 3 coaches a day between London and South Molton (4 in summer), and one a day to and from Bristol and the midlands. For schedules, contact Railtrack Travel Timetable or National Express, for coaches from London Victoria and the Midlands.
The first coach from London (12:30) will just connect with a local bus at South Molton - or we can arrange to meet you. (There is an earlier coach in the summer) Coming by rail to Tiverton Parkway, a local bus can be taken into Tiverton, and then the local bus which will stop at our door. The last bus connections to get to us before dinner leaves Tiverton Parkway at 16:42, connecting with a 17:25 bus at Tiverton bus station. If you do decide to take the bus from Tiverton, buy a ticket for Alswear. We are about a mile and a half past Meshaw, on the right. Just past a turning for a caravan site, look out for a large stone wall. If you let us know which one you'll be on, we cas stop the bus our front gate!
However, if you prefer to come all the way by train, you should change at Exeter St Davids for the Tarka Line (towards Barnstaple), and get off at Eggesford - where we could arrange transport.
Please contact us before you book your journey, and we can work out the best connection times for you. Please note that 2 single rail tickets are often cheaper than a return!
